PROGRAM FAQs

ABOUT FISHING
Fishing is the fourth most popular sport in the United States. Why? Simply put, everyone can do it. It’s a group as well as an individual sport, inexpensive to begin, challenging and fun, and becomes a life-long activity.

ABOUT OUR PROGRAM
The Fishing Foundation program is designed as a one-stop place for people to go who have never fished before.   We provide educational instructions, rods, reels, bait, hands on practice and fishing from shore for beginning anglers of all ages to get started fishing.

WHO WE SERVE?
Our primary goal is to expose youth in under served areas to the joys of fishing.  But anglers of all ages are welcome.  Fishing is something anyone can do, can learn at anytime and enjoy all of their life.

HOW TO GET STARTED?
Contact The Fishing Foundation by calling President, Dennis Knowles at 216-337-8891.  At that time we will work with your organization to schedule a learn how-to-fish educational seminar and time fishing from shore at a local pond in the Cleveland area.

WHAT KIND OF BAIT DO WE USE?
We use night crawlers.  All bait is provided free of charge.

IS THERE A COST?
Our goal is to take people fishing for free.  Otherwise, our cost are very reasonable.

DO I NEED A LICENSE?
Anyone over the age of 16 living in the State of Ohio must have a fishing license.

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?
The Fishing Foundation provides all of the rods, reels, bait and some refreshments.  Unless arrangements have been made in advance for TFF to provide lunch, groups and individuals should plan on bringing their own meals.    Participants should bring the appropriate weather gear like a rain coat, sun block, a hat, sun glasses and if necessary gloves.

CAN I KEEP THE FISH?
We encourage everyone to catch and release of all fish that are caught.  If you plan on keeping fish you should bring ice and an appropriate container to house them.

OUR MISSION
The mission of The Fishing Foundation is to enrich people’s lives through fishing by offering training, education and water conservation classes, friendly competition and time on the water fishing from shore in a safe and secure setting.
